Mount Lilian via Buller Pass

6.6 km
291 m elevation
★★★★☆ rating
Moderate Difficulty
Pet Friendly

Mount Lilian via Buller Pass is a great trail along Buller Pass with plenty of cool mountain views. It is a semi-narrow trail through the forest with lots of sun exposure, but the views make up for it. Surrounded by Mount Engadine and Buller Mountain down Spray Lakes Road, this hike offers plenty of photo opportunities for the lower amount of effort required. There is no formal ending to this trail, if you are following the AllTrails map, the ending is just up the hill across from the bridge over the creek - there is no viewpoint or marker there, just AllTrails says you are done and time to turn around.

If you are looking for more of a challenge or for backcountry camping, you can always continue further down Buller Pass.

It is very important to bring bear spray on this hike as it is very remote. We say 2 very fresh piles of bear scat (estimated 15-30 minutes old), and 3 semi-fresh piles (from earlier in the morning) on our trek.
