Mount Kidd Fire Lookout is a challenging hike with spectacular views of the Kananaskis Region. The first two kilometers are very easy with gradual incline, but the second you pass the tree line the trail the trail gets steep - the following two kilometers have 600 m of elevation gain on a single track dirt trail up the front of the mountain with elevation grades as steep as 100 degrees. This trail is worth the grind, but be prepared for lots of steep trails with minimal sun shelter. The majority of the incline ends when you reach the abandoned helipad near the top, then you are able to walk along the grassy ridge all the way until the rock face of Mount Kidd.

I would not recommend bringing dogs on this hike unless you know the capabilities of your dog. We did bring our boxer/shepherd cross on this hike as we knew from experience he would do it with ease, but left our golden retriever back with friends.

Be prepared with bear spray, lots of water, and snacks if you are looking to complete this hike.
